Summertime Updates!

Whoa! Been a long time since I've made a post/update and for all of you following my site by email or otherwise, I apologize! This one will be a bit lengthy to catch up on the last few months, but it's been such a wonderful time and there's so much to share with you!

Been having a great time here in Calgary! It's been a good Summer, my B-day was just yesterday (August 18th), my girlie has just arrived in town after nearly 9 months of long-distance relationshipping and we're nearing our final few weeks of the show (Big Boom Theory II)!

I have been approached by our theatres' Artistic Director to co-write the next upcoming show - "Oh Boy! Buddy Holly!".  We are currently finalizing and editing the last of the script before it becomes a reality later this fall.

It opens in Winnipeg in October 2014, then onto Edmonton and Calgary into 2015!  To be writing a full 3 act musical comedy that will be touring across three major cites in Canada for the Holiday Season and the better part of next year, is mind-blowing to say the least and I am so very grateful and excited to have been granted this awesome opportunity!

I will post the official Winnipeg dates and teaser blurb next time, but you can find out more or BOOK TICKETS (wink wink!) by checking out the Celebrations website!

I hope you can all come to see it! It is going to be a blast...from the past!

And speaking of blasts...from the pasts... I have also been asked to collaborate on another future script for late 2015-2016 tentatively titled "Michael Jackson is...Back From the Future!"  So this is going to be an exciting ride as well.  We have barely begun to brainstorm what we are going to cook up for this one, but stay tuned over the next while for updates! 1.21 Gigawatts!

Below is some of the visual work I've been doing between shows, writing, soaking up the Sun by the hotel pool, and trying to figure out the Universe...(...Thanks for the help with the Universe so far Abraham Hicks, Alan Watts, Terrence McKenna, Brendon Burchard, Einstein, Buddha, Jesus, Yoda, Law of Attraction, and Meditation... I'm starting to get the hang of it...).

I've been working mostly on personal experimentation/studies and online courses, so there's a heck of a lot of work that would likely be plain boring or simply too unrefined to even be worth posting, but here are some of the pieces from the last few months I like best! Enjoy!

Some Random Ship Designs - One Space, One Underwater...

Below - A Steampunk Tattoo Design Commission.

This tattoo was to cover up an existing tribal tattoo and needed to incorporate the "3-bladed" symbol at the top and the tubes at the bottom needed to be arranged in a way that would cover up a tribal arm band as well. The hands on the watch point to the commissioner's daughter's Birthdate.

And Below - Some Random Personal Sketches, Environment Speed Paints, and Studies

The Above Raven Studies are for an illustration I am working on for a Shadow/Raven Ranger.  She is part of the "Prime" universe being developed by Chad Shelton and myself.  Next post will include some of the work I am doing for Prime and for The Age of Osiris - an upcoming music/animation project a good friend of mine, Ian James, have in the works.

I am also thinking about starting up an email newsletter that will either replace or compliment my website updates with all the things I like to do and learn about -  including art, music, animation, entertainment, philosophy, supernatural, nature, survival, science, quotes, tips, tutorials and maybe even things like recipes of yummy, healthy food and drinks! It's all still in the works, and once it's all up and running I will have a sign up button and send out some messages to subscribe, but please feel free to get in touch and let me know if you'd be interested in receiving such a newsletter and any suggestions of things you'd like to see in it! I want this to be fun for everyone, so let me know what you think.

Thanks again for all your support and patience and for taking the time to take a gander.  More design, illustration, music, and animation is on it's way soon and please leave a comment, a message in the box on the left, or get in touch by any of the other crazy social media methods found on my contact page!

Take Care till next time!

"The Brumor King" Book Covers and More!

Hey You!

Just arrived in Edmonton last week and finally got the internet, so I thought I'd share some of the work I've been doing in the last couple months!

Most recently, I have been working on some Cover, Poster, and Map designs for a new fantasy novel being published later this month.

The book is the first release of a Saga of novels by the talented and creative mind of a good friend of mine,  Riley Martin.

The series is entitled "The Champions of Haven" and this first book is called "The Brumor King" ... as you can see by the cover design below...

Check out the back cover for a short blurb on the the story.

Here are the book covers and spine.

Below is a map of the Province of Brumor and surrounding area-just a small portion of the Land of Haven that Martin has envisioned.  I will be working with Riley on Maps for the other books and a large, full coloured map of the entire land of Haven in the future.

I was also asked to design a simple poster of just the Falcon Family crest design, so here are a few.

The following illustration was originally intended to accompany the story - it depicts a scene near the end of the story where Sir Leo Falcon has just endured a grueling tournament, and must now face a final fight against a huge and powerful champion knight.

It was still a work in progress, but in the end, the Author couldn't use the illustration, so it is now it's just a random medieval tournament illustration!

Below are some of the random personal works I've done late last year and earlier this year in no particular order...

The first is a concept for the intro of a graphic novel/video game story I've always had in the making in the back of my mind...

The main character, Enz, wakes up, near death, in a mysterious jungle at the base of a colossal tree and must navigate his way through the jungle... on to epic adventures!

Another couple character concepts for the story...

A character named Half, who struggles with the personalities and powers of good and evil. She begins the story  in a huge, bio-mechanical suit of terror, completely possessed by Darkness.  This is a concept of the first time her suit opens up and releases her inner body.

A work in progress concept of another of the story's characters, Utopia, the Pirate Queen.

Here is a work-in-progress poster of a magical fairy.  I hope to start a line of posters very soon and will be selling them at a small, locally owned alternative culture shop in my neighbourhood back home in Winnipeg.

Five minute figure sketches I did up from pixelovely.com
A fabulous, flexible, and free figure drawing website!

http://www.pixelovely.com

And below a whole bunch of random sketches, studies, and concepts...

And finally, some portrait sketches.

I will be starting on a very special and personal portrait commission this week, and I wanted to warm up with some more realistic portraits.

99% of the time, I draw from imagination, but in my journey to continually improve, I found I needed to get better at realism and life drawing, so for one of the first times, the picture below was painted from online photo reference...of course couldn't leave it at just a normal pretty girl, so I threw on some quick and rough android seams and a futuristic background doodle for fun.  I may still come back and polish it up, as it is one of my favourite portrait pieces so far...

Well, that's just some of what I've been up to along with the show 5 nights a week (Leonard in "Big Boom Theory II") and all of life's craziness.

I still have so much more to share with you, so I will be posting a whole lot more very soon!

Thanks again for taking the time to check out my work, and take care until next time!

Hey!

Well, the month is almost up and I have yet to post something!...

...Here is just one of the things I've been up to as of late:

The first round of art prints are now available for the #1 iTunes Dungeons and Dragons podcast - Dungeons and Randomness !

Here are some images of the limited edition prints I did of The Winterhaven Knight, Sir Malchus Grimnas - Tiefling Warlock.

We've released 30 limited edition 11x17 prints, signed and numbered by yours truly, and they have been selling fast!  When the limited editions sell out, we will be selling more prints, but on a lighter paper and not autographed or numbered.

If you'd like to purchase a print, you can get in touch through my contact box, or you can purchase one here on my DeviantArt .

You can also find the last of the limited prints at the D n R Store

The Prints

And here are some of the fans opening their prints for the first time!

This is Ryan with his prints of Malchus by Me and Yenward Firestomp by Hugh Rookwood

And below are some links to some YouTube videos of fans un-boxing their prints!

In the second video, one of the girls can't read my autograph... I added my name to the symbol design in hopes of it being more readable, but evidently, it may still not be clear enough... I've re-designed my Blog Header with my new Symbol including my name.  What do you think?
Do you think my name and symbol is readable to someone who doesn't know my name?

I'd love to hear it in the comments or drop me a line and tell me what you think!

I have so much more January madness to share with you and I will be doing so as soon as I can get the time to sit down and post it all!

Thanks for the support and take care until next time!

Personal sketches

Dear Blog,

Still workin' away at some commissions and home/yard renos these last few weeks...

In the meantime, thought I'd share with you some of my personal sketches from a while back.

As I often don't get quite as much time as I'd like to draw, I try to keep somewhat fresh with a few personal doodles from time to time... I often jump from subject to subject each time, either out of a direct decision for personal growth, or from the random "what-should-I-draw-now's".

Here are some of those instances:

A random sci-fi girlie.

A Medieval Knight Armour study sketch...

A really quick Skeleton sketch to test out a textured brush I made in Photoshop.

Simple, but I like it for some reason.

And lastly a night time forest environment speedpaint... Approx. 1hr

That's it for now, but thanks for taking the time to check these out!

Keep in touch and in tune for more soon!

Cheers and Take Care 'til Next Time!
